Recipient of the 2023 Fayette County Star Teacher Award, and 2017-2018 SBO “50 Directors Who Make a Difference in America” award, Barbara Baker is celebrating her 22nd year at McIntosh High School where she currently serves as Director of Bands. In 2016 Ms. Baker was selected as the teacher most likely to place a musician in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Ms. Baker studied music at Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Under Ms. Baker’s instruction her bands have earned superior ratings at Georgia Music Educators Association Large Group Evaluation and have received several prestigious performance invitations throughout the United States.
Ms. Baker is a concert and marching band adjudicator and clinician throughout the Southeast. Ms. Baker conducted the Georgia Music Educators Association District Honor Band for District Eight and she was a National Grammy Educator Finalist. She has been a Star Teacher, Who’s Who Among Teachers, Organizing Chair for District Festival, Solo Ensemble, Honor Band, and Georgia Music Education Association District Treasurer. Ms. Baker is a member of the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA), and previously held positions as President of Delta Omicron, Honor Band Clinician, Marching Band Adjudicator, Concert Band Adjudicator, Concert Band Clinician, Marching Band Clinician and Spirit Camp Instructor. Ms. Baker has performed with the Cobb Wind Symphony at the CBDNA in 2002 and at the Mid-West Band and Orchestra Convention in December 2003. She has also performed in 2004 and 2007 at the GMEA Music Conference with the Cobb Wind Symphony.
Under Ms. Baker’s direction, the concert and marching bands have consistently earned superior ratings at LGPE and Marching Band competitions. The bands have also performed at several invitational events including Kennesaw State Invitational and The University of Georgia's JanFest.
Originally from Rome, Georgia, Cheyenne Riedel graduated from the University of West Georgia with a Bachelor’s of Music Education, Jazz Studies Certificate, and English Literature Minor in the Spring of 2024. During her musical career, Ms. Riedel has performed in various ensembles including the University of West Georgia’s Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and The Marching Wolves. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree from UWG in Music Education. She has been working with the McIntosh Band Program for the past two years, and is excited to be able to continue working with this program as the Assistant Band Director. Ms. Riedel and her Fiancé, Jacob, love staying inside on rainy nights with their two cats: Karter Wiggles and Athena.
